So Far, So Good for the Mittals

My column today in La Tribune looks at one year of management of Arcelor (now ArcelorMittal) by Lakshmi and Aditya Mittal. I find them to have been rather successful, and at any rate to have given the lie to commentators who predicted disaster during the hostile takeover battle of early 2006.

A Technology Policy for the Environment

On Monday in La Tribune, my column centered on the technological aspects of the effort to tackle climate change. French policymakers (just like most of their European colleagues) have taken leadership in promoting the Kyoto protocol and preparing its aftermath, but (partly in reaction to the US policy stance) they tend to neglect the role which could be played by new technology. And there are pitfalls if they were to rely on outdated approaches to industrial policy.
