Vox, the economic policy portal operated by the Centre for Economic Policy Research, today published an article by Thomas Philippon and I, based on our recently published Policy Brief. We develop our argument that a more competitive and developed financial system could contribute significantly to the growth of new firms in Europe, and hence to collective welfare and job creation.

Economic Nationalism: the French Exception

In today's column in La Tribune, I examine the argument, often heard in Paris, that 'while the French talk about economic nationalism, the others do it'. In fact, there is little evidence for such a view: France has an open economy, but foreign takeovers of prominent local companies are rather less frequent there than in other Western countries.
