The Peterson Institute just published this volume including a chapter I co-authored with Anna Gelpern, on the history of US banking sector development policy viewed through the prism of "banking union". It turns out to be an uncommon approach in the existing literature about US financial history, and the lessons for the EU are indirect rather than immediate - because the two stories (US and EU) are so different.
