Bruegel today published Breaking the Deadlock: A Single Supervisor to Unshackle Europe's Capital Markets Union, a book-length essay in which I argue that supervisory integration is the key to progress towards the now decade-old vision of a capital markets union for the EU. Beyond making the case for capital market supervisory integration as a priority project, I contribute a detailed analysis of current supervisory structures and how they could be unified into a single entity based on the existing European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).
